Thank you to the Independent Record for the Voter’s Guide published in last Thursday’s paper. We would like to clarify the sample ballot which was included.

Because in Montana, the primary election is held so that each political party may decide who will represent them in the general election, there will be a ballot for each party. When you go to the polls, or in the mail, you will be given three separate ballots, one for the Democratic Party, one for the Republican Party and one for the Green Party. Each ballot will contain only that respective party’s candidates. You may only vote one ballot for one political party. The other two ballots must remain unmarked and unvoted.

The sample that appeared in the newspaper was merely a composite, and the ballot you receive will not look like that. If you have any questions about this, please contact Lewis and Clark County Election Office by calling 406-447-8339 or email elections@lccountymmt.gov, or ask the election judge at the polls. We hope this will clarify the ballot issue for you.

There will also be an important issue for fire safety on the back of each ballot so be sure to turn your ballot over and vote on that. We urge you to keep democracy alive by voting, so please do vote in this election.
