In a recent letter I said that the NRA stood in the way of common sense gun reform including outlawing bump stocks and large capacity magazines. This was incorrect. The NRA is in fact not opposing legislation to outlaw bump stocks (which convert semi-automatic to automatic weapons). My apologies to the NRA. This move will help to mitigate future disasters. I thank you for that.
The issue of 100 round magazines remains. Just like bump stocks, high capacity magazines have no valid recreational value and regulating them would mitigate suffering in the same way. Perhaps the NRA will consider this common sense measure as well. And maybe someday they will even back off of the absurd position that more guns will make us safer. Perhaps there is hope.
