MILES CITY — A Custer County District High School student has been expelled after being charged with having a loaded handgun at school.

The Unified Board of Trustees made the decision to expel Clint Parsons last Tuesday after deliberating behind closed doors.

Superintendent Keith Campbell said the board decided to expel Parsons based on Campbell's recommendation. He said it was a tough decision but there have to be consequences for taking a gun to school.

The 18-year-old Parsons faces a criminal-endangerment charge. Court records say Parsons told authorities he brought the .22-caliber handgun for protection Feb. 4 as a result of recent school shootings.

He faces a preliminary hearing on Feb. 21.

    2. You rambled, failed to stay on topic or exhibited troll-like behavior intended to hijack the discussion at hand.

    5. You believe the newspaper's coverage is unfair. It would be better to write the editor at This is a forum for community discussion, not for media criticism. We'd rather address your concerns directly.

    6. You included an e-mail address or phone number, pretended to be someone you aren't or offered a comment that makes no sense.

    7. You accused someone of a crime or assigned guilt or punishment to someone suspected of a crime.

    8. Your comment is in really poor taste.
