I would like to get your attention about a growing problem in our community. As a local business owner, it’s become harder and harder to find employees. I know a lot of people think low wages is the problem. But, it’s not. I know a lot of other local businesses offering $12 an hour and up. Yet, no one is walking through the door to even apply. We have a growing workforce shortage.

Over the past 20 years, we’ve seen a lot of new faces in town. A lot of people have come here to retire. It’s great and if you are one of them, “Welcome to Helena.”

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen a lot of workers come to the area. So, I’m asking those of you who are involved and engaged in the community, if you haven’t already, to start adding “workforce shortage” to your conversations and meeting topics. I don’t know the answer to resolving this problem. It’s something we can’t, as a community, afford to ignore anymore. Thank you for your time.
