Name honors Bill Roberts

My wife and I are writing as long-time Helena residents to protest the re-naming of the Bill Roberts Golf Course. It is deplorable that the city commissioners would even consider changing the name when Bill Roberts dedicated 45 years of his life to that golf course. He was the nicest person you would ever hope to meet. It seems like they waited until after his daughter Betty Weber Lamb passed away before considering this change. Betty and Pee Wee lived next door to the Roberts family home which gave them a view of the golf course for many years.

Does this mean they would ever consider changing the Kay McKenna Park or even the Holter Museum? I think not. In the case of Kay McKenna, they would have every kid who graduated in 1972 on their case.

Please reconsider this change. It would be good to hear Bill Roberts Golf Course on the phone rather than Hidden Creek. The city commissioners should be ashamed of themselves to even consider this change.

Commissioners, please answer up: what pressing city problem would be solved by renamiing the golf course?

What's that? Can't hear you. Cat got your tongue?

I agree and don't even golf. Why does anyone want the change the name? Buildings, streets, parks, golf courses etc...have traditionally been named in honor or recognition of someone. Is this some new form of the PC culture?

    5. You believe the newspaper's coverage is unfair. It would be better to write the editor at This is a forum for community discussion, not for media criticism. We'd rather address your concerns directly.

    6. You included an e-mail address or phone number, pretended to be someone you aren't or offered a comment that makes no sense.

    7. You accused someone of a crime or assigned guilt or punishment to someone suspected of a crime.

    8. Your comment is in really poor taste.
