Our community is an amazing place. I would like to thank Mrs. Parker, all the businesses and all the students who worked to host a local Jobs Festival at Helena High School last week. Last summer, as a high school junior, I had the honor of representing Helena as one of twelve Bezos Scholars from across America at the Aspen Ideas Festival. As part of that experience, each of us was charged with collaborating with our communities on a local festival focused around an area of interest to our community. I chose to work on the issue of increasing the high school graduation rate, and the connection between graduation and employment. As part of my project, I was able to join in the effort to host the Jobs Festival. Because of the great support of our community’s teachers, counselors and businesses, HHS students were able to experience the job opportunities available to high school graduates. Better yet, this was not a one-time experience but an event that will be hosted by HHS students for years to come.
