“Growth brings change; unpredictable change, which can bring hesitancy to optimism. It is essential that we cope with the realities of the past and the uncertainties of the future with a pure and chosen hope.”

This is a quote from Mattie Stepanek’s book “Hope through Heartsongs." A young boy afflicted with muscular dystrophy became a bestselling author about hope before he died in 2004 at age 14. Pure and chosen hope can be gifted to children through The Angel Fund.

This fall, Angel Fund began its 27th year making a difference in a child’s life by helping almost 800 students in the Helena School District with new school clothes, shoes, winter outerwear, a new backpack, school supplies, calculators, project supplies and field trip fees. Kids were able to shop and pick out new clothes enhancing their self-esteem, thus promoting an enthusiastic attitude to learn and attend school. Angel Fund also awarded eight graduated seniors a $1,000 Montana post-secondary scholarship to help with their educational journey toward a successful future. We have spent $116,000 since July 1, 2016, for children in need.

There are over 30 Angel Coordinators and Angel volunteers that help children receive required school items. Angel Fund also has a nine-member Board of Directors who oversee this nonprofit. A high school student wrote, “Thank you so very much for all you do for the Helena community. You have helped countless children & families asking nothing in return. Your program is amazing, as well as all of you who make it possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Thank you who make it possible for Angel Fund to continue this noble cause; giving children hope and the opportunity in the future to “pay it forward.”

This past summer, four children in Helena set up a “Lemonade Stand with Cupcakes” to raise money for kids in need! They wanted to purchase school supplies for other children so they would have brand new supplies to begin school. Blain and Cristen Bermingham told their children that whatever amount of money raised they would match it! The money from the lemonade stand purchased over $200 of school supplies.

This is one story of many that Angel Fund receives each year that shares our mission and hope for the future. Please visit our website at www.angelfundhelena.org for more information or call 368-2406. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 7436, Helena, MT 59604. Helping others during the holidays is a pure and chosen gift of hope. Together, we are changing the world, one child at a time. Merry Christmas!
