Sonny Stiger presented the Tri-County FireSafe Working Group Sonny Stiger Award on Thursday to three recipients for exceptional service to mitigate the wildfire danger through hazardous fuel reduction, public education and the distribution of information in three counties.

Luke Fehlig was awarded for his professionalism as a Northwest Management forester, according to a news release from Paul N. Spengler, Lewis & Clark County Disaster & Emergency Services coordinator; Mary Kelley for providing public wildfire mitigation education forums; and Jordan Alexander received the award for his work in the Baxendale Fire District to inform the public of the wildfire risk and methods to reduce that risk through mitigation.

The Tri-County FireSafe Working Group is active in Lewis and Clark, Jefferson and Broadwater counties. Stiger started the group in 1984 after the North Hills fire because he saw the need to educate the public about reducing the risk of wildfire around their homes and property.
