Vivian Margaret Brown was born Dec. 14 1922, and passed away on July 31, 2013, after a brief illness.
She was born in Clancy, where she spent much of her life lovingly raising five children. She started working as a cook while still in high school, which generated her love of gardening, raising poultry and cooking. Vivian was a wonderful cook. There was always something special being prepared in her kitchen. Her greatest joy was cooking holiday dinners and to have her five children and their families gather in her home. She loved to garden, to can, to hook rugs and to give away her bounty. She was an avid reader.
Vivian began her nursing career in 1961 — a job she loved. She cared for elderly and disabled for more than 35 years at nursing facilities in the Helena area; Alhambra Manor, Big Sky Care, Parkside and Western Care. Vivian retired at age 70 and moved from the family home in Clancy to Helena, where she loved receiving visitors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Brown; sister, Estella Baugh, and brother-in law, Walter Baugh; and brothers, Ray (Bus) Hanna and Kenneth Hanna.
She is survived by her children, Estelle Hayes, Gladys Hiett (Don Mullin), Frances O’Hara (Walter), Barbara Brown, Jim (Fran) Brown; six grandchildren, Deanna Hersey, Clinton Hersey, Cathy White, Becky Weise, Ellen Martensen and Sarah Martensen; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
