Helen Louise Norrid, 81, of Helena, left this world to be with our Lord on Oct. 13, 2009. She was born Nov. 26, 1928, in Butte, to William Nicholas and Helen Louise Sullivan Morrison.

Helen attended St. Mary's Catholic School and graduated from Girls' Central.

She met her future husband, Paul, while he was working in the Butte mines. Paul and Helen made their homes in Butte, Muldrow, Okla., and Fort Smith, Ark., prior to moving to Helena in 1969.

While working full time and raising five children, Helen pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and received her degree in 1969. She worked as a nurse in Fort Smith, Ark., and the Veterans Administration and St. Peter's Hospital in Helena. Prior to retiring in 1994, she worked as a ward clerk at St. Peter's.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Norrid; her parents; and her brother, Gerald Duncan Morrison.

She is survived by her brother, Don (Rose) Morrison; her children, Danette (Bob) Vessell of Muldrow, Teri (John) Reeves, of Fort Smith, Debra (Phillip) St. George, Paula (Tom) Hayes and Donald (Jennifer) Norrid, of Helena; her grandchildren, Rebecca Miller, Theresa Reeves, Leah Rampone, Matthew Welsh, Sara Welsh; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend of the family, Jessica Crockett.

Helen enjoyed baking Butte's famous pasties, watching movies, speed reading books, playing bingo, and spur-of-the-moment rides that often included a trip to Butte to enjoy dinner at her favorite restaurant, Lydia's.

She was loved and will be missed by her many friends and her family.

Helen's family wishes to thank staff from Benefis in Great Falls and St. Peter's Hospice and Cooney Home staff who provided care for the last three years of her life and staff from Retz Funeral Home.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 12:10 p.m., Oct. 20, at St. Mary Catholic Community in Helena. Memorials may be made to the Helena Food Share or a charity of the donor's choice.
