May 8, 1928 – Aug. 26, 2017
Robert (“Roy”) Hughes Barrowman died peacefully in his sleep on August 26, 2017 in Helena, MT. He was 89.
Robert was born on May 8th, 1928, in Yonkers, NY, to parents James Harrison and Sarah (McGuire) Barrowman. Growing up in Yonkers, he was a member of Cub Scout Pack 125 and Boy Scout Troop 4; he graduated from Roosevelt High School. He served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Adirondack (EAGC-15) and USS Okanagan (PA-220). After his service, he studied at Champlain College in Plattsburgh, NY. He married his wife Catherine Kerr (Millar) on February 9, 1952. He retired from the NY Telephone company in 1985, and subsequently moved to Safety Harbor, FL with members of the family. They moved to Helena, MT in 2008.
During his lifetime, Robert was a Chief of Clan McGregor O.S.C. (Order of Scottish Clans), a Cub Scout Master (Pack 203 in Yonkers), a Round Table Commissioner (Washington Irving Council), a Deacon for Westminster Presbyterian Church, a Trustee for Dayspring Presbyterian Church, and a Master Mason (for more than 60 years) for Thistle 900 F.A.M. (now Diamond Thistle Lodge 0555 of the Free and Accepted Masons). Robert was a great husband to his wife, father to his children, and provider for his family. He traveled the world, spent time in each of the 50 states, and was able to see and do things he never imagined were possible as a kid. For all this, his family and friends, he felt blessed and was truly grateful.
Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine, and their sons William and James.
