Asay, Ian Legrand

Ian Legrand Asay passed away the night of September 8th, 2017, in a motor vehicle accident near Bozeman. Ian was born June 9th, 1990 in Billings, MT and throughout his travels, he called Montana home. Although Ian left us far too soon, he will forever leave a mark on the people he knew, and he will be greatly missed.

Throughout his adventurous life, Ian gained experience in more work arenas than most of us do in a lifetime – everything from becoming a Ferrier to a senior operator on a flow back rig in the Bakken oil Fields, and more.

On a bit of a whim, Ian went to school for barbering and happened upon a career he’d love and give himself to until the day he died. Being a barber solidified Ian’s love for trendy hair, enviable beards, outrageous tattoos and a community of people from all walks of life he would unquestioningly call his own.

Ian was truly one of a kind. Caring, generous, funny, and fearlessly genuine, he made friends everywhere he went. From the time he was just a little guy, Ian worked at his daily mission to make people laugh. No one found him to be more funny (or brought him more joy) than his soul mate and fiancé, Samantha.

While we ache for the loss of Ian’s life, we take comfort in his faith. While Ian was not a religious man (and some might consider him endearingly irreverent), he carried a simple, authentic faith in God and the importance of family and community.

Together, with family and friends, we honor the life he lived so fully.
