Helena City Manager Ron Alles was not selected for the same job with the city administration in Billings.

On Friday morning, the Billings City Council voted 9-0 to begin negotiations with Great Falls City Manager Greg Doyon.

Alles was one of the five applicants who had made it to the final round and interviewed for the position.

Billings mayor Tom Hanel said he liked Alles' longtime commitment to Helena and Lewis and Clark County, where Alles has worked for 26 years.

When reached for comment Friday afternoon, Alles said "it was a great process, Greg Doyon is a great choice for Billings," Alles said.

"I am not disappointed to be here," Alles said, "Helena has been great to me."

Alles previously told the Independent Record that he is originally from Billings and has a personal tie to the city.

“It’s no reflection on Helena,” he said. “I’ve been here 26 years, there’s good people here and I love the folks I work with and work for, and it was a tough decision.”
