Feature Photo: Memorial for homeless people who passed

Karen Reese places a rose in a vase at Women's Park Thursday morning during the Longest Night memorial service for eight local homeless people who died in 2017. YWCA of Helena hosts the annual event on the longest night of the year as a reminder of the exposure that some people face as a result of homelessness. Gov. Steve Bullock and Mayor Jim Smith spoke at the memorial and the crowd observed a moment of silence for the deceased, whose names were read aloud. The names were: Donald Pritchett, James Partin, John Reith, Chantel Coble, Bret Proulx, Martin Wood, James Molyneaux and Joyce McCarl.
