After the Nov. 7 election for a seat on the East Helena City Council ended in a tie, the governing body selected incumbent Donald Dahl to continue for another term.
Dahl and challenger Kelly Harris were still tied with 165 votes apiece after a final recount by hand last week, and Dahl was selected to fill the seat Monday.
Montana state law requires ties to be decided by the city council in situations like this.
Dahl is a retired auto technician serving his first term as a council member. He also chairs the zoning committee that recently updated the zoning ordinances and vice chairs the planning board that adopted regulations for subdivisions and updated the city’s growth policy. He’s lived in East Helena for 40 years. In a candidate survey, Dahl said he would work to help the city create a master plan for road maintenance and repair.
