During his three years with the Helena Fire Department, Dave Maslowski has exhibited high standards and served as an inspiration to others. According to his cohorts, those are just part of the bevy of reasons Maslowski was chosen as 2016 Helena Firefighter of the Year.

"He does this with an infectious attitude that exudes confidence in his abilities and portrays his love for this profession," Battalion Chief Bob Harvey wrote in his nomination letter for Maslowski.

"Dave is a self-starter and is full of enthusiasm and drive," Harvey wrote.

On Thursday afternoon, the Exchange Club of Helena presented Maslowski a trophy for his achievements. As part of the club's acknowledgement, Maslowski also received a $500 check to donate to the charity of his choice. Another $500 check was presented to the HFD.

Maslowski thanked his cohorts for the accolades.

"We have a pretty busy job. It's getting busier and busier every day," he said, adding that his profession is also fun.

In addition to his regular duties, this year Maslowski has become the lead for the HFD's radio communications maintenance, along with working with the department's hazardous materials air monitoring equipment and joining the Helena Citizens Council.

At the celebratory lunch, Assistant Fire Chief Ken Wood spoke of Maslowski's reliability and dependability.

"Dave has those qualities," Wood told the group. "He's a great guy."
