Police arrested a 47-year-old man Sunday on a felony charge of criminal mischief for allegedly causing about $2,000 worth of damage to a St. Peter's Hospital safe room.
Officers received a call Sunday from a Washington Street hotel reporting a man who entered the business and began yelling profanities, according to documents filed in Justice Court Monday. The man, Dale Franklin Jones, later called 911 from a pay phone at the corner of Broadway and Last Chance Gulch stating that he wished to harm himself.
Upon police arriving, Jones asked to be taken to the hospital, where he was transported and taken into the safe room, the documents state.
About 45 minutes later, hospital staff called police, stating Jones was "out of control" and had punched a window, court documents allege. When officers arrived, they found Jones had taken an oxygen bottle and used it to damage the room's oxygen supply outlets, and also shattered a window and damaged the lock to the safe room door.
Jones is being held in Lewis and Clark County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.
