A 66-year-old Helena man upset with a woman’s reaction to his love letter broke two windows at God’s Love shelter on Last Chance Gulch with rocks on Friday night.
Police arrested Robert Leroy Zinn on a felony charge of criminal mischief for causing more than $1,500 worth of damage in his outburst.
When an officer arrived on the scene, Zinn allegedly admitted to breaking both windows, but he said he wouldn’t have done so if he had been sober.
According to court documents, Zinn explained to the officer he had written a love letter to a female employee at the shelter. The letter sparked an argument between the two, and Zinn was kicked out of the facility. Zinn said he then began drinking and returned to God’s Love on two occasions, breaking a window each time.
Police were called to the shelter at 8 p.m. and again about two hours later when he had come back to break the second window.
Zinn is being held in the Lewis and Clark County jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
