Braden Peterson ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns as the top-ranked Capital High football team defeated Billings Skyview 27-7 in their Class AA state semifinal game on Friday night at Vigilante Stadium.
Peterson scored on a 4-yard run with 3:32 remaining in the first half to cap a 30-yard drive that gave the Bruins a 13-7 halftime lead. The drive was set up by a long Mike Wallace kickoff return that allowed the Bruins to begin the possesion at the Skyview 30-yard line.
Capital added two second-half touchdowns, one on a Peterson four-yard run and another on a 19-yard pass from Corey Scevers to Dusty Williams.
Skyview (8-3) had taken a 7-6 lead on Casey Bigelow's 6-yard TD run with 5:48 remaining in the half. That score capped a 12-play, 74-yard drive by the Falcons.
Peterson gave Capital an early 6-0 lead on a 73-yard touchdown run on the Bruins's second possession.
It was Peterson's 14th rushing touchdown of the season. The extra point kick following the touchdown failed.
For the first time this season, Capital failed to score on its opening drive. The Falcons allowed just one yard on three plays and forced a Bruin punt.
Jake O'Brien returned the punt 30 yards into Capital territory, but the Falcons (8-3) were unable to gain a first down and passed up a potential field goal attempt. Carson Hilliard was stopped on fourth down and Capital regained possession.
Capital (11-0) entered the game on a state record 32-game winning streak and is looking for a fifth consecutive appearance in the championship game.
Skyview lost to Capital 42-20 back on Sept. 18.
