A Helena man was arrested Sunday after his pistol fell from his unbuttoned holster during a fight in a local business.
Santichai Khiangklang, 26, is being charged with felony assault with a weapon and misdemeanor DUI.
Officers responded to a call about a man entering a business in the 600 block of North Last Chance Gulch and threatening people with a gun. They later found Khiangklang a block away from the business, sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle.
Khiangklang told officers he had gone into the business to confront an employee about personal matters involving a woman, which led to an argument and a physical confrontation.
Khiangklang told authorities he had a pistol in a holster but denied threatening anyone with it. He said the gun fell to the ground during the confrontation, according to court documents.
The victim told authorities Khiangklang had his pistol holstered during the argument, but unbuckled the holster before the physical fight, causing the gun to fall.
Officers said Khiangklang smelled like alcohol, and he told them he had consumed two beers. Khiangklang had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.188 at the time of arrest, according to court documents.
