A 38-year-old Augusta man is accused of assaulting and strangling a child.

Michael Nathaniel Seymour is being charged with assault on a minor and strangulation of a partner or family member. The victim is younger than 14 years old.

Child Protective Services requested deputies assist in a possible child removal after receiving reports of a child with facial bruising received from Seymour, according to court documents.

The victim allegedly woke Seymour while arguing with another family member about going to bed Jan. 17, according to court documents. Seymour allegedly spanked the victim multiple times, leaving bruising on the buttocks.

Seymour is accused of grabbing the child around the neck, making it difficult for the victim to breathe, according to court documents.
