Authorities say two people were injured by a man with a knife at Cruse Park in downtown Helena Monday afternoon.

Rainbow Cloud Peters, 25, of Helena, was arrested and booked into the county jail for allegedly resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer, assault with a weapon and attempted homicide.

Officers were dispatched at 2:17 p.m. to an altercation between a male and a female at 551 Last Chance Gulch, near the intersection of Last Chance Gulch and Cruse Avenue. A short time later, another call was made as the male and female began fighting. The situation escalated when Peters allegedly pulled a knife.

Officers saw Peters going toward a woman and a man with the knife. With the help of a citizen, Peters was subdued and detained. The male and female victims were taken to St. Peter's Hospital with stab wounds. Their conditions are currently unknown.

Peters was convicted in 2015 of criminal endangerment in Cascade County. He was sentenced to 24 months in the Montana Department of Corrections.
