An accident involving a Helena school bus and a student slowed traffic around Helena Middle School for a short while after school Tuesday.

School Resource Officer Tyler Wood said the bus was making a left turn from 16th Street onto Rodney Street in front of HMS when it pinned the child against an improperly parked car. The student suffered only superficial injuries, officials said.

The bus driver was not at fault, and the driver of the improperly parked car was cited for parking in a yellow zone.

Kalli Kind, the facilities administrator for Helena School District #1, said that the district “takes the safety of students as our number one priority.”

“The bus driver did nothing wrong. They were just at the stop sign and it was their turn to pull forward. The student placed themselves between the improperly parked vehicle and the bus and the student got wedged,” Kind said.
