A Helena man was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison with 16 of those suspended for molesting a 12-year-old child.
Tristan Cougar Rose pleaded guilty to sexual assault, a felony.
Rose turned himself in to the Helena Police Department in June and admitted to having illegal sexual contact with the girl. Rose touched the girl inappropriately on three different occasions, according to court documents.
People under the age of 16 cannot consent to sexual intercourse in Montana. According to court documents, Rose admitted to knowing the girl's age when he had sexual contact with her.
Rose will serve his sentence in the Montana State Prison. He must seek treatment and register as a Tier II sex offender.
