A Helena man convicted of raping a 3-year-old was sentenced to 60 years in prison Tuesday.
Scott Alan Cook was convicted of sexual intercourse without consent by a jury on Aug. 14. At his sentencing Tuesday, Judge Mike McMahon sentenced him to 60 years with none suspended. If released, Cook, who was 49 at the time of his arrest, must register as a Tier 1 sex offender.
The child was taken to a pediatrician and to the Lewis and Clark County Child Advocacy Center for a forensic interview. The child was reportedly reluctant to talk during the interview, but later told the guardian of specific sexual acts and sex toys used during the alleged assault. Sex toys matching the description were allegedly found in Cook’s belongings, court documents state.
Cook maintained his innocence to authorities following his arrest.
