A Helena man is facing multiple felonies and misdemeanors after allegedly assaulting and strangling a family member.
Thomas Edward Norton, 44, is charged with felony strangulation of a partner or family member, two counts of felony assault with a weapon, misdemeanor partner or family member assault, and misdemeanor violation of a no contact order.
On Friday, an officer responded to a disturbance at a Helena home, where she encountered Norton. Norton allegedly told the officer he knew he wasn’t supposed to be at the house but was retrieving personal items.
The officer then spoke with the victim, who said Norton had assaulted her over the past few days, according to court documents. Norton allegedly head-butted the victim, used a headboard to strangle her and later strangled her to the point of unconsciousness with his hand.
The victim also told the officer that Norton was yelling and saying he was going to kill her.
