Darrin Lee Newman, 49, of Helena, faces felony and misdemeanor charges for an alleged assault that occurred Monday.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of Ewing Street for a welfare check. The alleged victim reportedly had bruising to her arm, chest and neck as well as a bandage on her elbow, court documents state.

“The victim advised the defendant became angry, yelled at her, tried to strangle her by wrapping both hands around her neck and proceeded to throw her into a chair,” according to court documents.

Newman faces a felony charge of strangulation of a partner or family member and a misdemeanor count of partner or family member assault.
