A Helena man was arrested Sunday and charged with felony possession of heroin and other offenses, according to a court complaint.
Police were investigating a report of a robbery on the 3100 block of Queen Anne's Street when they spotted Jason William Riggs, 43, who matched the description of the suspect. The suspect was reported to have a knife.
When the officer identified himself to Riggs, he reached for his coat pocket. The officer instructed Riggs to remove his hands from his pockets. When Riggs refused, the officer grabbed him by the arm. Officers struggled to gain control of Riggs, who resisted attempts to be handcuffed, documents say.
While attempting to make an arrest, officers witnessed Riggs drop a pipe with burnt residue and two small bags of heroin, according to the documents.
Riggs is also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor obstruction of a peace officer, misdemeanor resisting arrest and felony tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Officers later determined Riggs was not the suspect from the robbery.
