A 34-year-old Helena man is accused of assaulting his partner and another person after drinking.

John Paul Kennedy is charged with two misdemeanor counts of partner or family assault and one count of felony partner or family member assault.

Deputies were called to a domestic disturbance on Jan. 11 in Lewis and Clark County. When they arrived at the scene they met with Kennedy outside his home where he said he had been in an altercation with two other people in the home, according to court documents.

Kennedy said he had been assaulted by one person and was grabbed by his beard and he had retaliated by grabbing and throwing her around, according to court documents.

Kennedy is alleged to have ripped the victim’s clothes, screamed, hit the victim in the face. Kennedy is also alleged to have put his fingers in the victim’s mouth, causing injury to the back of the throat, according to court documents.

Kennedy is also alleged to have pushed another person during the incident, according to court documents.

When deputies spoke with Kennedy again and asked him if he had hurt the victim, he said “I hope not,” according to court documents.

Kennedy also admitted to consuming alcohol before the incident.
