A 50-year-old Helena man with four prior convictions for violating a protection order is accused of committing the same crime again, making it a felony.

Kenneth Ray Studey is suspected of violating the order on Wednesday. The order was issued by a district judge on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, officers responded to a report of Studey contacting the alleged victim. However, officers learned that he had not been served the protection order before that contact took place.

Court documents say the order was then served in the presence of the officers, and Studey tore up the order and approached the victim. The man said he did not believe the order could be enforced, according to court documents.

His previous convictions for violating a protection order are out of Washington, court documents say.
