A Helena man has been arrested for allegedly punching a police officer and stealing alcohol and tobacco.

Dustin Jesse Kotecki, 25, was charged with theft, resisting arrest, obstructing a police officer, robbery and assault on a police officer, according to court records.

Kotecki allegedly stole a bottle of alcohol from a store on Helena Avenue and when police found him walking on 11th Avenue, refused to speak with officers, court documents state.

When the police officers attempted to handcuff Kotecki, he began resisting and started to run. The officers caught Kotecki and he allegedly began to fight the officers, punching one in the mouth and causing a cut, according to the court affidavit.

Police later reviewed security footage and saw that Kotecki had taken the bottle of alcohol from the store without paying and returned less than 20 minutes later to take a cigar without paying as well, according to court documents.
