A Helena woman was arrested Saturday morning after being found in a stolen car that had been painted a different color.
Kylie Ashton Grassmyer, 29, is being charged with theft, criminal mischief, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A citizen called police about a suspicious car parked nearby and requested a welfare check on the driver because of the cold weather, according to court documents. A sheriff's deputy who checked the vehicle identification number determined that the car had been stolen.
The deputy woke Grassmyer, who was sleeping in the driver’s seat of the car, and placed her under arrest, according to court documents. The deputy searched the vehicle and discovered a baggie with a substance determined to be heroin, a pipe with burnt black residue, and a digital scale.
The owner said the car had been painted, causing more than $1,500 worth of damage.
