There will be an informal gathering Thursday for area young people to come together to remember five teenagers killed early Sunday morning when the pickup truck they were in crashed on Keir Drive.

The crash took the lives of André D. Hartwig, 18, of East Helena; Beau A. Miller-Lopane, 18, of East Helena; Eric A. Prudhomme, 18, and his sister, Danielle R. Prudhomme, 15, of Helena; and Chanda M. Scarber, 18, of Helena.

The event will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, on the corner of 11th and Rodney, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. A soup and bread lunch will be provided.

The gathering is the combined effort of several organizations in the Helena community that want to give youths the chance to gather and connect with each other in the wake of the crash since schools are on spring break, said Superintendent Bruce Messinger.

While the gathering will be informal, there will be resources available from St. Peter’s Hospice and the Center for Mental Health to help with coping.

what a horrible and tragic time for these children's families.
Such a senseless and stupid way for these children to have died. Bad decisions made by at least one of these children will forever effect their family and friends.
Hug your kids, pray they don't make these sort of decisions, love them if they screw up (because they will) and let your children know that their behaviour, actions and decisions can have a long-lasting effects...

Thanks to all who are organizing this event for our youth. It is such a necessary part of the grieving process to be able to gather with others who knew the victims and have a time of remembrance. I pray that those in attendance will remember that this life is but a vapor ~ here and then gone so quickly. Tell your family and friends that you love them today, right now. You never know when it will be your last chance to do so. May God be your strength in this most difficult of times.
