Gianforte releases military academy nominations
Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte has announced his nominations for 31 students applying for enrollment into the U.S. military academies.
A service academy nomination from Gianforte meets an admittance requirement for Montanans seeking officer training in one of the nation’s four military academies: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York.
Montana students interested in applying to a U.S. military academy are encouraged to contact Gianforte at his Billings District Office at 406-969-1736 or visit his congressional website at gianforte.house.gov/services.

Study abroad opportunities available
Qualified high school students are offered an opportunity to spend an academic year, semester or summer holiday in Europe, Asia, North or South America, Australia or South Africa as part of the ASSE International Student Exchange Program.
Students, 15 to 18 years old, qualify on the basis of academic performance, character references and a genuine desire to experience life abroad with a volunteer host family.
Families abroad are carefully screened to provide a caring environment in which students can learn the language and culture of their host country. Students do not need to know the language of the host country prior to departure but will acquire the language skills through experiencing the day to day culture of their host country. ASSE students attend regular high school classes along with their new teenage friends.
ASSE also provides international opportunities for families to host students from Spain, Mexico, Germany, Great Britain, France, Brazil, Thailand, Japan and many more. These carefully screened and selected students are 15 to 18 years old and will attend the local American high school for an academic year.
CASA seeks gift cards for families
For several years CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) has chosen a family in need of help for Christmas. However, this year there are so many children in care and so many families that need help. This year we are asking for the community to help with gift cards where families can get food, necessities and a toy or two for their children. Any amount is welcome.
CASA is serving more than 200 children in foster care and/or kinship care due to child abuse and neglect. This is the highest caseload of children CASA has seen in 19 years of advocating in Helena. The majority of our children are coming from drug addicted parents. Please know that if you donate a gift card for a family, the card will be given to the child’s appointed CASA to shop for or with the child in foster care.
Your donations make it possible for families in need to celebrate during the holidays.
CASA provides trained advocates for abused and neglected children in Lewis and Clark and Broadwater counties subject to District Court jurisdiction. CASA provides any and all activities necessary to promote the health, safety and welfare of children in dependent neglect cases.
