NEW BURGER JOINT

You may have noticed construction work happening at 2530 N. Montana where Crazy Mountain Consignment formerly was. Helena is about to get a new dining option at this location. Burger lovers will be excited to know that East Coast Diner – Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries announced that it has a franchise agreement to expand into Montana. Their first location is in Helena and will open in early 2018. Franchise owners Tim and Brenda Jittu will bring at least 5 locations into Montana. The retro-themed diners are known for “fresh, never frozen burgers, premium sliced cheesesteaks piled high on hoagie buns and frozen custard made in-house every day”.

AREA RENOVATIONS

Work is starting on the former Dairy Queen building on N. Montana Avenue, just a block away from the above mentioned burger place. It is unknown at this time what will go into this building. Just north of there, Arby’s is nearly close to completion with their renovations and it looks great!

The 1889 Café earlier reported to be built next to Taco Treat on Prospect Avenue is now moving forward with the foundation ready to go in.

WINCO IN WORKS

The Winco Foods grocery store is now back in the works! This very large grocery chain had purchased land just east of Panda Express & Planet Fitness. They pulled back their plans months ago and put the land back up for sale. Now they are quickly moving through the permit process at the city and plan to move forward to build the store in Helena. They are based out of Boise, Idaho. Winco is known for being “employee owned” as they believe their employees should share in the success of the company in a tangible way. Participating in the ESOP program means that employees are part owners of the company and benefit financially from a job well done. The Winco stores are known to be the “Super Market Low Price Leader”. Their stores typically employ between one hundred and two hundred workers.

NEED A PERMIT FOR THAT?

The Helena City Building Division reminds homeowners and businesses that if you are installing, replacing, or adding any fuel-fired appliances such as water heaters, furnaces, fireplace inserts, etc., that a permit is required by law. You can call them at 447-8438 for more information. The reason for this permit is to ensure that these types of appliances are installed correctly for safety of the residents or occupants.

Cathy Burwell is president/CEO of the Helena Area Chamber of Commerce.
